How to treat your children cheering a child custody battle.

Friday, December 19th, 2008

When going through divorce it can be difficult sometimes to know exactly how to treat your children. Divorce is a difficult time for each of the parents but can be even more difficult for the children.

Depending on the age of the child they will not understand why their parents are getting divorced and will have a variety of different emotional reactions to the divorce.

Child custody battles can put even more stress on your children as both parents fight for custody. Dr. Ira Turkat has seen many child custody battles and believes that each parent should be driven by the desire to do the best by their children.

As a parent, if doing best by your children is what drives you both inside and outside of the courtroom then you should have fewer problems treating your children well. By loving them and seeking to achieve the best possible settlement for them you are doing the right thing.

If, however, you are driven by your own desires instead then this can lead you to treat your children in ways that may not always be in their best interests.

Child custody battles can be difficult times but always remember it is not the child’s fault that they are emotional and it is your responsibility as a parent to take good care of them.
